More room to respond when a claim grows
A large lawsuit can test the limits of your primary policies. Commercial umbrella and excess liability coverage may add another layer of protection for eligible risks.

Let's look at the coverage underneath

Higher liability limits
An excess policy can provide additional limits above an eligible underlying policy, subject to its terms and attachment point.
Multiple exposures
A commercial umbrella may sit over specified general liability, auto, or employers liability policies. Which policies qualify depends on the insurer.
Contract requirements
Lenders, landlords, and large clients may request higher limits. We'll help review the insurance language you need to address.
Umbrella and excess are not interchangeable
Some excess policies follow underlying terms closely, while umbrella forms can have their own wording and exclusions. Neither automatically covers every claim or fills every gap. Required underlying limits, retained limits, and exclusions deserve a careful look.
Start with your primary policies
Review general liability, commercial auto, and workers’ compensation alongside any umbrella or excess proposal.
